Description of the processor

With the Intel Core i5-12500T, Intel offers an energy-optimized desktop processor that has a significantly lower clock speed compared to the normal version of this processor. Specifically, the Intel Core i5-12500T has six 12th generation “Golden Cove” P cores (Alder Lake). Smaller E-cores are not present in this model.

The six P-cores clock at 2.0 GHz, but the Intel Core i5-12500T can dynamically increase the clock frequency to up to 4.4 GHz in Turbo mode. With load on all CPU cores, dynamic speeds of up to 3.2 GHz are possible. This is lower than the normal version of this processor. The TDP is correspondingly lower and cooling the CPU is also easier.

The Intel Core i5-12500T has an integrated graphics solution (iGPU for short). However, the Intel UHD Graphics 770 only has 32 execution units and 256 texture shaders and is only suitable for some older computer games due to its low graphics performance. Newer games require dedicated graphics.

The Intel Core i5-12500T supports both the older DDR4 and the newer DDR5 memory. The memory support depends on the motherboard. The Intel Core i5-12500T achieves a maximum memory bandwidth of 76.8 GB/s when using DDR5-4800 memory. However, faster RAM is also unofficially compatible.

We recommend using at least two memory modules so that dual-channel mode can be used. If only one module is installed in the system, the maximum memory bandwidth is halved.

The Intel Core i5-12500T is still manufactured at Intel using a 10 nm process and is not quite as energy efficient as the competing models from AMD and Apple. With 7.5 MB Level 2 cache and 18 MB Level 3 cache, the processor is ideal for many applications and, together with dedicated graphics, it is also well suited for computer games.
