Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-6200U is a processor for mobile devices and is characterized by its extremely low energy consumption. You can see that right from the processor name, because the “U” at the end of the processor name stands for “extremely low energy consumption (ultra-low power models)” at Intel. The Intel Core i5-6200U is used, for example, in the two notebooks HP ProBook 650 G2 or the Lenovo ThinkPad L570.

The clock frequency of the dual-core Intel Core i5-6200U is 2.30 gigahertz, but is increased to 2.80 gigahertz in turbo mode when a single core is loaded and to 2.70 gigahertz when both cores are loaded. Overclocking is not possible with the processor, this is reserved for Intel processors with a "K" at the end of the processor designation.

As a graphics unit, Intel has integrated an Intel Iris Graphics 520 into the Intel Core i5-6200U. The graphics units with the name Iris are always more powerful than the graphics units that are simply referred to as HD. Of course, this only applies within a generation, here we are, for example, in the 9th generation of Intel graphics units.

The Intel Iris Graphics 520 used here clocks at 0.30 gigahertz and can increase the clock in turbo mode up to 1.00 gigahertz. The graphics unit has 24 execution units, so-called EUS (Execution Units) available. It supports Microsofts DirectX version 12.0 and can supply up to 3 screens with one picture.

As usual with processors for mobile devices, the Intel Core i5-6200U only supports working memory in SO-DIMM format. To be precise, DDR4 memory with a clock frequency of up to 2133 megahertz can be installed here.

Thanks to PCI-Express version 3.0, the processor is also able to address fast NVMe hard drives.
