Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-3470 is a quad-core desktop processor from Intel that can process 4 threads at the same time. Hyper-Threading is not active on this processor. The Intel Core i5-3470 clocks its 4 cores with 3.2 GHz. In turbo mode, all cores can be clocked with up to 3.6 GHz. The single core turbo is also at 3.6 GHz. The processor cannot be overclocked because Intel sets the multiplier. The CPU belongs to the 3rd generation of the Intel Core i5 processors.

The Intel Core i5-3470 is based on the Ivy Bridge architecture, which is manufactured in 22 nm by Intel. The processor has a TDP of 77 watts and can address up to 32 GB of RAM in the DDR3-1600 standard. The processor supports the dual-channel mode of the main memory, provided that at least two modules are installed. This increases the throughput of the main memory to 25.6 GB / s. The level 3 cache of the processor is 6 MB in size. The Intel Core i5-3470 has 16 PCIe 3.0 lines for connecting a dedicated graphics card.

The Intel Core i5-3470 comes with the Intel HD Graphics 2500 as an internal graphics card (iGPU). This has 20 execution units and is suitable for simple computer games with low graphic details. The graphics card clocks at up to 1.1 GHz. While the graphics card can accelerate the h.264 codec via hardware, the newer HEVC (h.265) codec is not yet supported. The VP9 codec that Google uses on YouTube is also not supported in hardware.

The Intel Core i5-3470 was presented in the 2nd quarter of 2012 for around 175 euros. The processor is suitable for office work as well as an entry-level CPU for games. The processor fits into the LGA 1155 socket, supports the AES-Ni features for decrypting and encrypting data via hardware. Virtualization functions such as VT-x or VT-d are supported.
