Description of the processor

The four-core processor Intel Core I5-2500K published in the first quarter of 2011 comes from the second generation of Intels Core i5 series. It is based on the "Sandy Bridge" architecture from Intels processor program and is manufactured in the 32 nanometer process. Performance is approximately at the level of an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T, which appeared in the third quarter of 2010 and equipped with 6 processor cores.

The base clock frequency of the Intel Core i5-2500K is 3,30 Gigahertz. In turbomodus, the clock frequency of all cores can increase up to 3.70 gigahertz. The processor does not support hyperthreading, but can be overclocked if necessary. When overclocking, however, it must always be ensured for sufficient cooling of the processor. Here either a high-quality CPU cooler or a water cooling must be used. In the motherboard one must also make sure that it has installed the socket "LGA 1155".

The memory supports DDR3 modules with up to 1333 megahertz. The L3 cache of the Intel Core i5-2500K is 6.00 megabytes and supports fast data exchange between processor and memory.

In the Intel Core i5-2500K, graphics unit "Intel HD Graphics 3000" is integrated. This GPU has a basic clock frequency of 0.85 gigahertz. The maximum dynamic frequency, ie the clock frequency of the so-called turbomodus, is 1.10 gigahertz. The graphic unit of the Sixth Generation from Intels GPU program supports Microsofts DirectX 10.1 and Intels "Quick sync video" technology. In the image output, the parallel use of up to 2 monitors is possible.

PCI Express is supported in version 2.0 and offers a total of 16 lanes the ability to connect various additional cards to the processor. How many options there is also depends on the mainboard used.
