Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-10400T is a 6-core desktop processor from Intel. It is based on the 10th generation of the Intel Core i-series and supports Hyper-Threading. The processor can process up to 12 threads at the same time. As a T variant, the processor has slightly lower clock frequencies and a lower TDP of only 35 watts compared to its namesake Intel Core i5-10400.

Its base frequency is 2.0 GHz. The processor can increase this to 3.2 GHz (load on several CPU cores). When only one CPU core is loaded, a maximum of 3.6 GHz is possible.

However, the processor is not more energy-efficient, since the normal processors can also be configured with lower clock frequencies via the BIOS and then have identical performance and the same energy consumption. A T processor is only worthwhile if the systems cooling solution cannot adequately cool the normal version of the processor. In everyday life, hardly any energy can be saved with a T processor. When the computer is idle, the energy consumption is identical to that of other processors of the same generation, even if it is not a T variant.

An Intel UHD Graphics 630 with 24 execution units and 192 shaders is used as the iGPU. It is only suitable for displaying images and playing videos, PC games run only to a very limited extent and in low resolutions on this graphics card.

The Intel Core i5-10400T supports up to 128 GB of DDR4-2933 memory. Two memory channels are supported so that the memory bandwidth can be doubled in "dual-channel mode". The processor can also connect external devices such as a dedicated graphics card with 16 PCIe 3.0 lines.

The processor is based on the Comet Lake design and has 12 MB level 3 cache. It is manufactured in 14 nm at Intel.
