Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D is a 12-core desktop processor from AMD for the new socket AM5. In contrast to the current Apple or Intel processors, AMD does not rely on a hybrid core layout in which larger and smaller CPU cores work together.

In the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, on the other hand, 12 Zen 4 CPU cores of the same size are used. The clock frequency is 4.4 GHz, whereby the processor can increase its clock frequency up to 5.6 GHz as long as the energy consumption and the temperature are within the permitted range. If all 12 CPU cores are loaded, up to 5.2 GHz are possible on all cores.

As with all current Ryzen 7000 processors, the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D now also has an integrated graphics unit (iGPU). Specifically, AMD uses the AMD Radeon Graphics (Raphael) with two execution units and 128 texture shaders. The graphics card can use up to 8 GB of RAM as graphics memory. However, the performance of the iGPU is not high and the integrated graphics are not fast enough for games.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D can connect up to 128 GB of DDR5-5200 RAM in two memory channels (maximum 4 RAM modules). When using two DDR5-5200 modules, the bandwidth is 83 GB/s. Higher clock frequencies are also possible using RAM-OC. With EXPO, AMD offers a new technology analogous to Intels XMP 3.0 technology, which makes overclocking the main memory much easier.

A dedicated graphics card can be connected with PCIe 5.0 x16, provided the mainboard chipset supports it. In addition, a fast M.2 SSD can be connected to the system.

The power consumption of the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D is 120 watts, but the processor can consume up to 170 watts of energy, provided the system has sufficient cooling.
