Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700U is an 8-core mobile processor from AMD. It belongs to the 4th generation of the Ryzen processors (Ryzen 5xxx) series, but still uses the "Zen 2" CPU technology of the previous generation. Other processors of the same generation (e.g. the AMD Ryzen 7 5800U) already rely on the 15 percent faster "Zen 3" CPU cores.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700U clocks its 8 CPU cores in the base with 1.8 GHz, but can dynamically adjust its clock frequency like all modern processors. Up to 4.3 GHz are possible in single-core operation. When all CPU cores are under load, a maximum clock frequency of 3.3 GHz is still possible.

With the support of Hyper-Threading or Simultaneous Multi-Threading, the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U can process up to 16 threads in parallel. Since its clock frequency is usually not very high, it is only suitable for professional applications to a limited extent.

The APU has an AMD Radeon 8 Graphics (Renoir) as the internal graphics unit, which is almost identical to the iGPU of the previous generation. Unfortunately, the new and free Videcodec AV1 is not yet decoded in hardware. The graphics frequency is a maximum of 1.9 GHz, with the graphics having 8 execution units and 512 shaders. The graphic reserves part of the main memory as video memory. A maximum of 2 GB is possible.

Since the processor supports RAM up to DDR4-3200 or LPDDR4-4266, the graphics also benefit from this fast memory. Two memory channels and a maximum of 32 GB of RAM are supported in total. The AMD Ryzen 7 5700U can provide 12 PCIe 3.0 lines to connect a dedicated notebook graphics card or other devices or interfaces to the processor.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700U has a TDP of 15 watts, which can be set to 10 to a maximum of 25 watts.
