Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 3 4300U is a quad-core mobile processor from AMD. It is based on the AMD Renoir architecture, which combines Zen2 CPU cores with an AMD Radeon iGPU. The AMD Renoir APUs have a slightly smaller L3 cache than the AMD Ryzen 3xxx (Zen2) desktop processors due to the chip area required for the iGPU. However, the smaller cache is not noticed negatively in most applications and benchmarks. The AMD Ryzen 3 4300U has an 8 MB level 3 cache. It does not support SMT (Hyper-Threading) and can therefore only process 4 threads simultaneously.

The base clock frequency of the AMD Ryzen 3 4300U is 2.7 GHz and can be increased to 3.7 GHz (Turbo mode). How long these maximum clock rates can be maintained depends on the notebooks heat and cooling performance. The TDP of the AMD Ryzen 3 4300U is between 10 and 25 watts. Accordingly, the processors performance also varies a lot with different TDPs. For our benchmarks, we always assume the processors most optimal supply (25 watts in this case).

The AMD Radeon 5 Graphics (Renoir) calculates FP32 with 900 GFLOPS and is thus suitable for older PC games in 720p or 1080p resolution (low details). The AMD Ryzen 3 4300U can address up to 32 GB of RAM in two memory channels, with RAM up to DDR4-3200 supported. The AMD Radeon 5 iGPU can use up to 2 GB of the working memory as graphics memory. Accordingly, it is optimal to run the RAM in dual-channel mode, as this greatly accelerates the speed of the internal graphics.

The AMD Ryzen 3 4300U has 12 PCIe 3.0 lines for connecting external devices or fast SSDs. Due to the manufacturing in TSMCs 7 nm technology, the processor is very frugal and generates quite little waste heat in the process. The cooling of the processor is therefore relatively undemanding.
