Intel Core i7-7700 vs Intel Core i3-13100

It features 4 cores, 8 threads, 8 MB of Level 3 cache, and supports PCIe 3.0. The Intel Core i3-13100 comes from the more modern Alder Lake S Refresh architecture, is manufactured using a 10 nm process, and is designed for entry-level and office PCs.

It also offers 4 cores and 8 threads, but with 12 MB of Level 3 cache and the newer PCIe 5.0. In Geekbench 6, the Intel Core i3-13100 significantly outperforms the Intel Core i7-7700 in single-core and multi-core performance. In Cinebench R23, the Intel Core i7-7700 shows higher single-core performance, while the Intel Core i3-13100 is significantly better in multi-core tasks.

For gaming, the Intel Core i3-13100 is clearly superior thanks to its modern architecture, higher IPC, and PCIe 5.0. Its higher memory bandwidth (77 GB/s compared to 38 GB/s) is also advantageous. The Intel Core i7-7700 has a TDP of 65 Watts. The Intel Core i3-13100, with a base TDP of 60 Watts, is more efficient per unit of performance.

While the Intel Core i7-7700 is primarily relevant for upgrading older systems, the Intel Core i3-13100 offers good value for money for new entry-level systems and requires a more modern platform. For new purchases or comprehensive upgrades, the Intel Core i3-13100 is clearly the better choice.
