Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Processors with the support of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) can process many calculations, especially audio, image and video processing, much faster than classic processors. Algorithms for ML improve their performance the more data they have collected via software. ML tasks can be processed up to 10,000 times faster than with a classic processor.

Comparison of the two processors

When comparing the Intel Core i5-12400F and the Intel Core i5-13400F, it is noticeable that they hardly differ in name. This is simply because the Intel Core i5-13400F is the direct successor to the Intel Core i5-12400F. The Intel Core i5-12400F simply comes from the twelfth generation of Intel's Core i5 processors, which is based on the Alder Lake S architecture. The Intel Core i5-13400F, on the other hand, is a new generation (13th generation) and is based on the improved Alder Lake S Refresh architecture.

Both processors are based on a monolithic chip design and are both manufactured with a structure width of 10 nanometers. The Intel Core i5-12400F came onto the market in the first quarter of 2022 and the Intel Core i5-13400F exactly a year later in the first quarter of 2023. They can both be installed on any motherboard with the LGA 1700 socket and support Intel's virtualization technologies VT -x, VT-x EPT and VT-d.

The biggest difference between the two processors is the core architecture and the number of processor cores. While the Intel Core i5-12400F uses a normal core architecture with 6 identical processor cores, the Intel Core i5-13400F uses a hybrid big.LITTLE architecture with 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. The 6 cores of the Intel Core i5-12400F have a basic clock frequency of 2.50 gigahertz, which can increase to up to 4.40 gigahertz in turbo mode. In addition, the processor also supports hyperthreading technology, which means it has up to 12 computing threads available if required. With the Intel Core i5-13400F, the 6 performance cores clock at up to 4.60 gigahertz and the efficiency cores at a maximum of 3.30 gigahertz. Hyperthreading is only supported by the performance cores, so up to 16 computing threads are available.

Both processors can be operated with up to 128 gigabytes of RAM via their 2 memory channels.
