In terms of performance, the Intel Core i5-12400 noticeably outperforms the Intel Core i7-9700, in both single-core and multi-core performance.

The newer Alder Lake S architecture ensures higher efficiency and processing capability. For gaming purposes, the Intel Core i5-12400 offers a better experience thanks to its superior single-core performance and support for PCIe 5.0. Both CPUs have a base TDP of 65W. However, the Intel Core i5-12400 achieves higher performance per watt due to its more advanced manufacturing process.

For new systems, the Intel Core i5-12400 offers a more compelling price-performance ratio. The Intel Core i7-9700 is primarily relevant for cost-effective upgrades of older, compatible platforms.
