Comparison of the two processors

The Intel Core i5-10400 is a 6-core desktop processor from Intel. The base clock frequency is 2.9 GHz. Using the turbo mode, frequencies of up to 4.0 GHz are possible on all CPU cores. When only one CPU core is loaded, up to 4.3 GHz is possible. Both processors also support Hyper-Threading and can therefore process up to 12 threads.

While the Intel Core i5-10400 F [/ b] does not have a graphics card, the Intel Core i5-10400 comes with an Intel UHD Graphics 630 as internal graphics. It has 24 execution units and 192 shaders and has a comparatively low graphics performance of just under 0.5 TFLOPS. The graphics card is not suitable for PC games due to its low performance.

The usual video codecs such as h.264 or h.265 (HEVC) are supported. Newer video codecs such as the free AV1 codec, which Netflix and Google (YouTube) want to use in the future, are not supported in hardware by the graphics card.

The processors support up to 128 GB of RAM (DDR4-2933) in up to two memory channels and 4 RAM banks. In the "dual-channel" mode, at least two main memory modules are combined and, by utilizing two memory channels, achieve a memory bandwidth that is twice as high as a module alone. This is beneficial for all professional applications or games.

Both the Intel Core i5-10400 and the Intel Core i5-10400F still use the PCIe 3.0 protocol with up to 16 lines. Dedicated graphics cards, for example, can be connected to the system via this. At 14 nm, the manufacturing technology is a bit out of date, so the processors need a little more energy. Nevertheless, Intel has managed to enable quite high clock frequencies.

Both processors are classified in the TDP class of 65 watts, but can also require significantly more energy under full load.
