Geekbench 6 is a benchmark for modern computers, notebooks and smartphones. What is new is an optimized utilization of newer CPU architectures, e.g. based on the big.LITTLE concept and combining CPU cores of different sizes. The single-core benchmark only evaluates the performance of the fastest CPU core, the number of CPU cores in a processor is irrelevant here.

Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-11400 is a mainstream 6-core processor from Intel. The processor can clock its 6 CPU cores with up to 2.8 GHz, whereby in turbo mode significantly higher clock frequencies of 3.8 GHz (multi-core load) or 4.2 GHz (single-core load) are possible. Since it is not a "K" processor, the clock frequencies of the processor cannot be overclocked manually.

An Intel Iris Xe Graphics 24 (Rocket Lake S) is used as the internal graphics in the Intel Core i5-11400. This is based on Intels XE graphics, which was introduced in 2020, but has been trimmed in the desktop processors so that it works with just 24 execution units, while the mobile processors rely on iGPUs with up to 96 execution units. Accordingly, the iGPU in the Intel Core i5-11400 is not suitable for modern games; a dedicated graphics card is recommended for this. After all, the new and free video codec AV1 is already being decoded in hardware by the iGPU.

Up to 128 GB of RAM (up to DDR4-3200) are supported by the Intel Core i5-11400. The Intel Core i5-11400 can address the main memory via two memory channels (dual-channel mode) in order to double the memory bandwidth. Approx. 55 GB / s are possible if two DDR4-3200 modules are used.

The Intel Core i5-11400 is based on Intels Rocket Lake architecture and is still manufactured in 14 nm. Rocket Lake is a "backport" of the newer "Tiger Lake" architecture, which is based on 10 nm. Due to manufacturing bottlenecks, Intel decided to cut the desktop processors a bit (e.g. in the maximum number of cores and in the iGPU) and to manufacture them again in 14 nm. The clock frequencies are therefore a bit lower than expected. The level 3 cache of the Intel Core i5-11400 is 12 MB in size.
