Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700G is an 8-core processor from AMD. It is based on the AMD "Cezanne" APU architecture, which is mainly used in mobile devices and, unlike the normal AMD Ryzen desktop processors, has an internal graphics unit (iGPU). With the AMD "Cezanne" architecture, Zen 3 CPU cores with AMD Vega graphics are placed on one chip. This means that the level 3 cache is smaller, as the chip would otherwise become too big and expensive. However, the "Cezanne" APUs have a cache that is twice as large as their predecessors of the AMD "Renoir" architecture, specifically the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G now has 16 instead of 8 MB.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700G can use its eight CPU cores with a clock rate of up to 4.5 GHz, provided that only one CPU core is used. If all CPU cores are loaded, 4.2 GHz are still possible. The base clock is quite a high 3.6 GHz. The AMD Ryzen 7 5700G makes it possible to build small, yet fast desktop systems, with the ASRock DeskMini case, for example, being the basis for the system.

The internal graphics of the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G are based on the previous design with slightly improved clock frequencies. The graphics achieve around 2.1 TFLOPs of FP32 tube performance and is sufficient to play moderately demanding games in Full HD (1080p) resolution. The AMD Vega 8 Graphics is also sufficient for video and photo editing. However, the new and free video codec AV1 is not yet accelerated via hardware. Both the new Apple M1 processor and the new Intel Tiger Lake with Intel XE graphics already play videos that have been created with the new AV1 codec via hardware. This improves energy efficiency and, in the case of mobile devices, also improves battery performance.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700G is specified with a TDP of 65 watts. This is also possible thanks to the improved 7 nm production. AMD has its current processors manufactured by TSMC.
