Apple M1 vs Intel Core i9-10900

Last updated:
The Intel Core i9-10900 was released in 2020 as part of the Comet Lake S architecture and was developed for desktop users requiring a high number of processing cores.

Manufactured using a 14 nm process, this processor offers ten cores and twenty threads. It features a Level 3 cache of 20 MB, while no Level 2 cache is available. It supports the PCIe 3.0 standard and the maximum memory bandwidth is 47 GB/s. For graphical tasks, the Intel UHD Graphics 630 is integrated.

In benchmarks, the processor shows fluctuating positioning. While it scores in single-core performance in some scenarios, it lags behind in other tests. In multi-core applications, the computing power is stable. For gaming, the Intel Core i9-10900 is advantageous as the platform offers high compatibility with dedicated graphics cards.

The Apple M1 was also introduced in 2020, uses a 5 nm manufacturing process, and aims for efficiency in compact systems.

The architecture includes eight cores and offers a Level 2 cache of 16 MB. With a memory bandwidth of 68 GB/s, it outperforms its competitor. Single-core performance results vary depending on the testing environment, with the Apple M1 gaining advantages in many applications. In multi-core performance, it delivers results on par with or slightly ahead of the Intel model.

The integrated Apple M1 graphics unit provides a solid foundation but is less suitable for demanding gaming. The Apple M1 is characterized by very low energy consumption and a low thermal load. The Intel Core i9-10900 is suitable for modular workstations, while the Apple M1 is recommended for efficient, closed systems.
