The Apple M1 was introduced in late 2020 as the first proprietary processor for Mac systems, targeting home users and creative beginners.

Manufactured using the 5nm process, it uses an eight-core architecture split into four performance cores and four efficiency cores. In benchmarks, the Apple M1 achieves solid single-core performance for smooth everyday applications. However, in multi-core performance, it ranks behind the Intel model.

Since the chip works in closed systems with Apple M1 (8-core) graphics, gaming performance remains limited due to software restrictions. The focus is on high energy efficiency and low heat emission. It offers deep system integration but is permanently installed. The Intel Core i5-13500 appeared in early 2023 in the Alder Lake S Refresh series for desktop computers.

It is produced using the 10nm process and has 14 cores, consisting of six performance cores and eight efficiency cores. While the single-core performance is comparable to the Apple M1, the Intel Core i5-13500 offers significantly higher multi-core performance for complex tasks.

In games, it is superior thanks to PCIe 5.0 and support for dedicated graphics cards. Power consumption is significantly higher with a 65-watt TDP and higher peak values, requiring active cooling. It is a good choice for modular systems. Those looking for efficiency choose the Apple M1; those who prefer high computing loads and gaming go for the Intel Core i5-13500.
