Geekbench 6 is a benchmark for modern computers, notebooks and smartphones. What is new is an optimized utilization of newer CPU architectures, e.g. based on the big.LITTLE concept and combining CPU cores of different sizes. The single-core benchmark only evaluates the performance of the fastest CPU core, the number of CPU cores in a processor is irrelevant here.

News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

Description of the processor

With the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X it creates a 16 core processor in the mainstream area for the first time in 2019. The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X clocks its cores with 3.5 GHz (base) or 4.0 GHz (Turbo). If only one core is loaded, the processor even reaches a clock frequency of 4.7 GHz.

Thanks to hyperthreading, the operating system 32 logical processors are available, which is especially useful for computational applications or virtualization. Like all the Ryzen processors, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X can be overclocked thanks to the free multiplier.

The TDP is indicated with (for a 16-core processor) low 105 watts, but can rise to up to 250 watts when overclocking the processor. The CPU has 64 MB Level 3 cache.

Memory is officially supported in dual channel mode (2 memory channels) with up to DDR4-3200, with a good motherboard and high-quality memory but also significantly higher clock frequencies of the memory. The error correction "ECC" of the memory is supported, but requires a motherboard which can use this function. An error correction is e.g. Important in workstations or servers if data errors must be detected quickly.

The new 3rd generation Ryzen processors also support the new PCIe 4.0, which doubles the data rates between the processor and connected devices (e.g., graphics cards) compared to the predecessor standard.

The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X relies on the Zen 2 architecture and is manufactured in Globalfoundries, a former AMD division, in 7 Nm structure. GlobalFoundries currently employs around 16,000 people and comes to a consolidated sales of just under $ 6 billion.
