Geekbench 6 (Single-Core)

Geekbench 6 is a benchmark for modern computers, notebooks and smartphones. What is new is an optimized utilization of newer CPU architectures, e.g. based on the big.LITTLE concept and combining CPU cores of different sizes. The single-core benchmark only evaluates the performance of the fastest CPU core, the number of CPU cores in a processor is irrelevant here.

Description of the processor

The AMD mobile processor AMD Ryzen 7 6800U has 8 equally sized CPU cores and can process 16 threads simultaneously. The AMD Ryzen 7 6800U is currently one of the most efficient processors on the market thanks to the Zen 3+ architecture, which has been changed from 7 nm to 6 nm production in this processor.

The TDP of the processor can be between 15 and 28 watts. The processor is also suitable for installation in thin notebooks, but it does a little less than the larger mobile processors, which are allowed to consume more than 45 watts of energy.

The base clock frequency of the AMD Ryzen 7 6800U is 2.7 GHz. The mobile processor can increase its clock frequency to 3.4 GHz (when more than one CPU core is loaded) or up to 4.7 GHz in single-core mode via the turbo mode. The processor cannot be overclocked, but notebook manufacturers can also install faster RAM than AMD actually specifies.

A maximum of 64 GB of DDR5-4800 or LPDDR5-6400 RAM is possible, which can be connected via two RAM channels. For example, an external graphics card with 8 modern PCIe lines can be connected via 12 PCIe 4.0 lines, and another 4 lines are then available for a fast SSD.

With a total of 20 MB cache (Level 2 and Level 3 combined), the processor is roughly on par with Intels current processors.

The new AMD Radeon RX 680M is used as the internal graphics unit, which is based on AMDs current RDNA 2 architecture and is significantly faster than the previous generation. With an FP32 computing power of 3.5 TFLOP/s, the AMD Radeon RX 680M is ahead of the iGPUs of the current Intel Alder Lake architecture, which achieves a maximum of approx. 2.2 TFLOPS. Apples iGPUs alone seem to be playing in a completely different league at the moment. The Apple M1 Ultra with 64 GPU cores achieves a whopping 21.2 TFLOP/s.
