Monero Hashrate kH/s

The crypto currency Monero has been using the RandomX algorithm since November 2019. This PoW (proof of work) algorithm can only efficiently be calculated using a processor (CPU) or a graphics card (GPU). The CryptoNight algorithm was used for Monero until November 2019, but it could be calculated using ASICs. RandomX benefits from a high number of CPU cores, cache and a fast connection of the memory via as many memory channels as possible. Tested with XMRig v6.x under the operation system HiveOS.

AMD's new Ryzen 5xxx processors make industry leader Intel work up a sweat: up to 20% more performance than the previous generation is a strong announcement. Mainly because AMD was able to convince last year. The only weak point of the Ryzen 3xxx was its single-core performance, which was not quite on the level of the Intel processors. AMD is now cleaning up and even trumps Intel's latest (11th generation) processor generation.

The Intel Core i9-10900K is Intel's most powerful processor in the mainstream area. With 10 cores and 20 threads and clock frequencies of up to 5.3 GHz (single-core load) and 4.9 GHz (multi-core load), the processor is particularly fast. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is only armed with 8 cores (16 threads). The cores clock with up to 4.7 GHz (single-core load) or 4.4 GHz (multi-core load). Nevertheless, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X manages to beat the Intel Core i9 by up to 15 percent in single-core load scenarios.

In multi-core benchmarks, the Intel Core i9-10900K is able to set itself apart and achieves an approximately 10 percent higher performance than the 8 core processor from AMD. However, this only costs a little more than half of the Intel Core i9.

The TDP is not very far apart with 105 watts (AMD) to 125 watts (Intel), in reality the Intel processor, which is still manufactured in 14 nm, requires significantly more energy than the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. The latter is manufactured by TSMC in a very efficient 7 nm process. The slightly lower clock frequencies of the AMD processor also save the electricity bill. That it is still enough for such a high performance shows that Intel is currently having a hard time keeping up with AMD.

Both processors support up to 128 GB of RAM in 2 memory channels. When using several memory modules, both processors support the fast dual-channel mode. While the AMD processor can handle DDR4-3200, Intel gives the Intel Core i9-10900K a maximum of DDR4-2933 support.
