Monero Hashrate kH/s

The crypto currency Monero has been using the RandomX algorithm since November 2019. This PoW (proof of work) algorithm can only efficiently be calculated using a processor (CPU) or a graphics card (GPU). The CryptoNight algorithm was used for Monero until November 2019, but it could be calculated using ASICs. RandomX benefits from a high number of CPU cores, cache and a fast connection of the memory via as many memory channels as possible. Tested with XMRig v6.x under the operation system HiveOS.

Actually, the comparison between an 8-core processor in the form of the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X with that of the 12-core processor AMD Ryzen 9 3900X should be clear, especially since both processors are only 1st generation apart. Since AMD was able to increase the raw performance per clock by up to 20 percent with the Ryzen 5xxx processors (Zen 3 CPU cores), the two processors only separate the two processors by around 20 percent in the end in multi-core benchmarks.

The single-core performance of the smaller AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is even 15 percent higher than that of the bigger brother, even though the turbo clock frequency is only 100 MHz higher than that of the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X. AMD was able to carry out some cache optimizations in Zen 3. In addition, the processors benefit from TSMC's new 5 nm manufacturing technology, which AMD uses to manufacture all of its current processors. Both together have a strong effect on the turbo frequencies, which can be held longer and be stronger.

Although the TDP for both processors is specified as 105 watts, the newer AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is quite a bit more economical than the 12-core processor AMD Ryzen 9 3900X. While the two processors AMD Ryzen 5 3600 and AMD Ryzen 9 3900X were particularly popular in the Ryzen 3xxx desktop series, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X should also be very much in demand this year. It forms the ideal middle between cheap and expensive and thanks to its high single-core clock and the high IPC, the processor is also ideal for games.

With the Ryzen 5xxx desktop series, AMD is using the aging socket AM4 for the last time. From the end of 2021, AMD would like to serve at least the new DDR5 memory type with the Ryzen 6xxx processors (Zen 4 cores) on a new socket. PCIe 5.0 isn't unrealistic either. Nevertheless, the current Ryzen 5xxx generation is already very fast and, thanks to the modern manufacturing process, efficient.
