News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 and the AMD Ryzen 5 3600

Comparison of the two processors

If you look at the names of the two processors from this comparison, you can already guess that both processors will be similar and without assuming too much, that's how it is. However, there are also some differences, starting with the release date. The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 was released in the third quarter of 2019, making it significantly older than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600, which was only released in the second quarter of 2022. Despite everything, the two processors are only one generation apart, the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 comes from the third generation of Ryzen 5 processors from AMD and is based on the Matisse (Zen 2) architecture. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600 comes from the fourth generation and is based on the Vermeer (Zen 3) architecture. Both processors are manufactured using the 7-nanometer process and they are both designed for the AM4 socket.

Both processors are equipped with 6 cores each. In the AMD Ryzen 5 3600, these clock at 3.60 gigahertz, which can be increased to up to 4.20 gigahertz in turbo mode. The cores of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 clock slightly lower at 3.50 gigahertz, but the maximum clock speed in turbo mode is slightly higher at 4.40 gigahertz. Both processors can be overclocked and support hyperthreading, giving you up to 12 computing threads.

The two processors are not equipped with an internal graphics unit, so you have to use a dedicated graphics card. To connect these, both the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 are equipped with 20 PCIe lines of version 4.0.

The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 has 2 memory channels through which it can be operated with up to 128 gigabytes of RAM. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600 is also equipped with 2 memory channels, but only supports a maximum of 64 gigabytes of RAM. Only the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 supports memory with automatic error correction.
