V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5500U is the direct successor to the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U. The improvements of the new mobile processor can be seen in detail in our CPU comparison. But first there is a small disappointment: AMD still relies on the Zen 2 CPU cores already used in the predecessor for the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U. Although the new "Lucienne" APU design brings a few minor improvements compared to the "Renoir" design of the predecessor, it is not the big hit.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5500U has a base clock rate of 2.1 GHz that is slightly lower than the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U. While the 1-core Turbo is still 4.0 GHz, the newer processor can only clock all CPU cores with 3.4 GHz instead of the 3.8 GHz of the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U.

Nevertheless, the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U is around 5 percent (single-core load) or even 25 percent faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U in the end. This is because AMD now allows simultaneous multi-threading for the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U. This means that the 6 CPU cores of the mobile processor can now process 12 threads in parallel. This is particularly helpful with computationally intensive applications.

Both processors can address a maximum of 32 GB RAM of the type DDR4-3200 or LPDDR4-4266. Two memory channels are available for this, which the system also uses in the best case. The AMD Ryzen 5 5500U uses the AMD Radeon 7 Graphics (Renoir) of the previous version, but in a larger configuration. This increases the graphics performance compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U by at least 30 percent.

The AMD Radeon 7 Graphics (Renoir) clocks at 1.8 GHz, has 7 execution units and 448 shaders. The new and free video codec AV1 is unfortunately not yet supported.

Both processors are manufactured in 7 nm and fit into the FP6 socket. The TDP is 15 watts.
