Description of the processor

The AMD FX-8300 is an 8 core processor. This processor was officially advertised as an 8-core processor, but in reality it is a 4-core a 2 module design, which is reminiscent of the 4 + 4 structure from Intel with Hyper-Threading. The CPU has a base clock of 3.3 GHz and an all-core turbo of 4 GHz. Applications and games that can only use one core are executed with a clock rate of up to 4.2 GHz.

RAM is supported by the AMD FX-8300 up to a specification of DDR3-1866. The AMD FX-8300 has two memory channels and thus supports the dual-channel mode.

The AMD FX-8300 fits into the AM3 + socket and has 8 megabytes of level 3 cache. Its TDP is 95 watts. The processor can be overclocked, which, however, requires a sufficiently good cooling. The "Vishera" design is manufactured with a structure width of 32 nm and tends to generate a good amount of heat at high clock rates. The processor is based on the "Piledriver" architecture. The CPU was presented by AMD in Q2 / 2013.

In the "boxed" version, AMD delivers the AMD FX-8300 with an air cooler. The "boxed" version is sold with a 3-year guarantee, while the tray versions, like Intel, are also sold with a 24-month guarantee (private buyers). It is therefore always advisable to buy the "boxed" version, even if the enclosed air cooler is not needed.

The AMD FX-8300 supports normal virtualization functions (AMD-V) as well as the AES-Ni (AES New Instructions). The AES-Ni enable accelerated encryption and decryption in hardware and thus enable the encryption of operating system drives, for example, without major loss of performance. For example, Windows 10 offers Bitlocker encryption for free but Windows 10 Pro version.
